Randomized trial examines robot control architecture performance, indicating effective modularity and safety.
This repository contains V5 of the CAA-X (Cognitive Atom Architecture eXtension) research program, subtitled "Robot Extension (CAA-R): Modular Control for Embodied Agents." V5 constitutes a specialized branch of the CAA-X framework — CAA-R (Cognitive Atom Architecture for Robotics) — dedicated to the unique constraints and opportunities of physical robot systems. While V4 established the theoretical bridge between prediction and action, V5 delivers the control-theoretic and systems-level specifications required for deployment on real robotic platforms. Core ThesisRobot intelligence demands properties that pure software AI can ignore: real-time guarantees, fault tolerance, hardware heterogeneity, and safety-critical operation. V5 proves that the cognitive atom decomposition, when applied to robot control, yields four formal advantages: (1) parallelizability of atomic computations; (2) error localization — faults are confined to single atoms; (3) atomic replaceability — hardware upgrades require only local re-mapping; (4) optimal resource allocation via the λ-order-parameter's dynamic scheduling. Key Contributions- Four Core Theorems: Formal proofs of parallel execution, error confinement, hardware-agnostic atomic substitution, and λ-governed resource optimization in robot control graphs.- Five-Atom Robot Architecture: Specification of the minimal complete robot cognitive architecture — Perception Atom, World Model Atom, Intention Atom, Action Atom, and Physical Constraint Atom — with explicit inter-atomic communication protocols (GWP-R, the Robotics variant of the Generalized World-Perception protocol).- Simulation Validation Protocol: "Yu Min-style" pure theoretical argumentation complemented by Isaac Sim simulation specifications — no proprietary robot data required, maintaining theoretical independence while providing empirical accessibility.- Safety Guarantees: Formal specification of atomic fail-safe modes, graceful degradation paths, and real-time schedulability analysis for mixed-criticality robot tasks.- Industry Alignment: Analysis of convergence with contemporary whole-body intelligence architectures (e.g., brain-midbrain-cerebellum decomposition in humanoid robotics), with explicit non-dependence on any single vendor's platform. Relationship to Prior VersionsV0–V2 built the general framework. V3 added intention. V4 bridged to action. V5 specializes for robots. It is designed as an independent paper targeting robotics AI venues (CoRL, RSS, ICRA) while maintaining conceptual continuity with the broader CAA-X program. Citation & ContextPart of the CAA-X versioned research program. See V0–V2 foundational collection (DOI: 10.5281/zenodo.21835958), V3 for intention theory, and V4 for the action-generation formalism.
