The recent thermal diffusion factor alpha T, data for the system CO2-CH3Cl, CO-CH3Cl, He-CH3Cl and Ar-CO2 have been compared with the available theories which take into consideration inelastic collisions. The results indicate limited success of the theories. Many features of thermal diffusion phenomenon in polyatomic gases have yet to be understood satisfactorily, and for this purpose further theoretical and experimental work is necessary.
