Workshop showcases innovative research-informed teaching approaches, enhancing student experience through inclusivity.
Session overview: This workshop will showcase innovative and inclusive approaches to Research‑informed Teaching (RiT) drawn from practice across LJMU. Through a series of short exemplars, colleagues will explore how research, professional practice and creativity can be embedded into teaching to make curricula current, challenging and inspiring for diverse student cohorts. The session combines brief presentations with hands‑on, participatory activities, enabling attendees to actively experience different RiT models and consider how these might translate into their own contexts. The exemplars include: • Plants in Today’s World (10 minutes) • Oil for Creaking Joints (5 minutes) • Escape Room (10 minutes) • Science for Real Life (5 minutes) • Human centredness for analytics teaching (10 minutes) • Building Knowledge Brick by Brick: Enhancing Reflection and Engagement with LEGO® Serious Play® (10 minutes) The session concludes with facilitated discussion and audience feedback, offering space to reflect on transferability, impact, and opportunities for wider adoption of RiT across disciplines. This session is aimed at academic staff seeking practical, adaptable approaches to embedding research meaningfully into teaching and the student experience. Key learning points from this session: This session is aimed at all academic staff who are keen to incorporate their own research, or the work of others, in their teaching and student experience. Different models of RiT will be showcased including audience participation as well as student engagement and feedback. For those who aren’t aware of a broader perspective of good RiT exemplars this is the place to be.
