Report documents historic properties at Edwards AFB and assesses eligibility for preservation listing.
This report presents the results of a historic building inventory and evaluation conducted by Argonne National Laboratory on behalf of the United States Department of the Air Force at Edwards Air Force Base in Kern, Los Angeles, and San Bernardino counties, California. This evaluation aids Edwards Air Force Base in managing the historic properties under its jurisdiction, as required by the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, as amended. The inventory documented 25 facilities at Edwards Air Force Base and evaluated them for historical significance against the criteria established for listing a property in the National Register of Historic Places. As a result of this inventory and evaluation, one facility, Facility 8783 located at the Air Force Research Laboratory, was previously determined to be eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places as contributing elements to a historic district. Argonne National Laboratory recommends that the facility retains its status as a contributing elements to the district. All of the remaining facilities evaluated in this study are recommended not eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places.
