Wistar rats (n=75)

Danshen (Salvia miltiorrhiza) 20 mg/kg or 100 mg/kg orally for 30 days, administered before and concurrent with adriamycin

Adriamycin (3 mg/kg i.p. three times weekly for 2 weeks) alone, or saline control

Cardiac and hepatic toxicity assessed by hemodynamic measurements, biochemical analyses of serum, synthesis rates of DNA, RNA and protein, myocardial antioxidants, lipid peroxidation and histopathologysurrogate
