Any apparatus designed to wash out bo-wel contents by irrigation will inevitably tend-the more so the more effective the apparatus-to lead to constipation, inasmuch as (1) the normal protective residual debris is thereby washed away, and (2) the natural function of defaccationl is su)p)lanted by artificial means.
