In a certain area in Taiwan, there are wells whose water flows from a depth of more than 500 ft. The water, however, has a high concentration of arsenic and the incidence of a particular disease claiming the lives of village residents is said to stem from the “poisoned” water. The author describes the succession of procedures (and their results) adopted to prove the feasibility of leaching the arsenic from the water.
