Why the study?
Cerebral infarction after pulmonary resection is known to be primarily caused by thrombus formation in the pulmonary vein stump.
Conversion from pulmonary segmentectomy to lobectomy can result in a long pulmonary vein stump, which increases the risk of stump thrombosis and subsequent embolic cerebral infarction.
Supports caution against long PV stumps after conversion from segmentectomy; leaves open whether this sequence independently raises stroke risk.
