Qualitative discourse analysis uncovers distinct narrative and rhetorical structures across Brazilian New Right documentaries, highlighting ideological distortions of key historical events.
This article discusses the coups of 1964 and 2016 and the June 2013 protests in Brazil as seen through the narratives developed in three documentaries, each of which advances a distinct New Right viewpoint: 1964: o Brasil entre armas e livros (Brasil Paralelo, 2019), Não vai ter golpe! O nascimento de um Brasil livre (MBL, 2019), and Nem tudo se desfaz (Josias Teófilo, 2021). The aim is to provide a comprehensive analysis of the narrative and rhetorical structures of these works, the similarities and differences between them, and the distortions and impoverishments of social reality contained in the representations they engender.
