Intervention

Atorvastatin (10 mg, 20 mg, or 40 mg per day) added to hypoglycemic therapies, or high-dose atorvastatin.

Hypoglycemic therapies alone, or low-dose atorvastatin.

Change in carotid intima-media thickness (CIMT) measured by ultrasound from baseline to end of treatment (24 weeks to 12 months).surrogate

Atorvastatin significantly reduces carotid intima-media thickness and improves lipid profiles in Chinese patients with type 2 diabetes, with high-dose therapy offering additional benefits.

Limitations

Relatively low quality of the individual trials reduced the evidence.
High heterogeneity (I² from 81% and 86.3%) was observed in the analysis of CIMT changes.
Information on blood pressure or antihypertensive agents uses was unavailable in most of the included trials.
Potential publication bias cannot be excluded due to all the included studies being conducted in China and published in Chinese.
