Presence of anxiety disorders (AD) and/or major depressive disorder (MDD), and use of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI)

Outcome

Heart rate variability (HRV) including high frequency (HF), low frequency (LF), and standard deviation of inter beat intervals (SDNN) measured during 4 min in sitting positionsurrogate

Adolescent females with anxiety or depressive disorders have reduced heart rate variability compared to healthy controls, which is partially explained by SSRI medication use.
