Pharmaceutical study reveals optimal physicochemical stability and skin-friendly pH in Kasisadi Taila, supporting its traditional use for breast tissue care.
Background: Kāsīsādi Taila is a classical Ayurvedic formulation traditionally indicated for Arśas (hemorrhoids). However, a variant of the same name is also described in Bhaiṣajya Ratnāvalī under Stana Roga Cikitsā, where it is primarily recommended for cosmetic and nutritive purposes. This preparation is applied for massaging the breasts in females and the genitals in males, with the objective of providing poṣaṇa (nourishment and toning). One such reference of Kāsīsādi Taila includes the ingredients Kāsīsa (green vitriol), Gajapippalī (Scindapsus officinalis), Lodhra (Symplocos racemosa), and Aśvagandhā (withania somnifera). Aim: To prepare kasisadi taila and conduct preliminary pharmaceutical analysis. Materials and Methods: In the present study, pharmaceutical preparation was done as per classic taila preparation according to Bhaiṣajya Ratnāvalī followed by preliminary analytical evaluation. Results: Kāsīsādi Taila was successfully prepared, and its physicochemical parameters were found to be within normal ranges. The formulation showed a pH of 5.66, indicating mild acidity suitable for topical use. The specific gravity was 0.9215, confirming uniform blending of ingredients. Viscosity measured at 0.4815 suggests smooth spreadability and ease of absorption, while the refractive index of 1.323 reflects clarity and purity of the oil. These values together highlight the stability and therapeutic suitability of the preparation for breast health care. Conclusion: Kāsīsādi Taila demonstrated stable physicochemical properties within normal ranges, indicating safety, purity, and good absorption potential. These results validate its preparation method and support its application in breast health care.
