Neurinomas comprise only a small percentage of all intracranial tumours and among them acoustic neurinomas are the most common. However, those originating from the trigeminal ganglion or nerve root, seventh nerve, or other lower cranial nerves are considered rare. Intracranial neurinomas have appeared in the literature under various nomen- clature, such as neurofibroma, perineurial fibro- blastoma, neurilemmoma, and Schwannoma (Russell and Rubinstein, 1963; Zulch, 1965).
