The flavin mononucleotide (FMN)-sensitized photooxidation of indoleacetic acid (IAA) was investigated under aerobic conditions. Photooxidation of IAA was caused by both reactions of non-singlet oxygen (type I) and singlet oxygen (type II). Type II reaction was separated using NaN 3 as singlet oxygen quencher. The initial velocity in type II reactions was measured in the range of pH 2-8. The ratio of the initial velocity of type I reaction to that of type II reaction decreased abruptly above pH 3 with increasing pH value. Main reaction rate constants in the FMN-sensitized photooxidation of IAA were determined at various pH values by kinetic analysis.
