Does comprehensive traditional Korean medicine treatment improve palpitations and reduce PVC burden in a patient with mild premature ventricular complexes?
Traditional Korean medicine may be an effective alternative approach for managing mild premature ventricular complexes accompanied by severe subjective symptoms when standard therapies are not indicated.
Objectives: This case report illustrates the effectiveness of traditional Korean medicine (TKM) in managing a patient with mild premature ventricular complexes (PVCs) and severe subjective symptoms.Case Presentation: A female patient in her early 50s presented with an acute exacerbation of palpitations, a symptom she had first experienced 20 years prior. A 48-hour Holter monitor recorded 6.12% PVCs. Over 2 months, the patient received TKM treatment consisting of weekly electroacupuncture, a 6-day course of Cheonwangbosim-dan consumption, and a 30-day course of Cheonggansoyo-san consumption. Following treatment, no significant arrhythmias were detected on a 72-hour Holter monitor, and the patient reported complete resolution of symptoms. Symptom improvement was sustained over a 5-month follow-up period. No adverse effects were observed throughout the entire treatment and follow-up period. Conclusions: TKM may be an effective approach for managing mild PVCs with significant subjective symptoms, as supported by objective measures such as Holter monitoring.

Lee et al. (2025) conducted a case report in Premature ventricular complexes (PVCs) (n=1). Traditional Korean Medicine (electroacupuncture, Cheonwangbosim-dan, Cheonggansoyo-san) was evaluated on PVC burden on Holter monitor. Comprehensive traditional Korean medicine treatment reduced premature ventricular complex burden from 6.12% to 0% and completely resolved severe palpitations in a female patient.
