Coupled LC-GC is a very powerful two-dimensional system and has potential for substantial time saving in sample preparation and sample clean-up; is far more efficient than conventional sample preparation methods. The main advantages of this coupled method are simplification of sample preparation by minimizing the pre-separation, efficient elimination of interfering components, better repeatability, and improvement of quantitation. Moreover it is possible to automate completely the entire system. This review categorizes LC-GC publications in food and water analyses.
