Recent data suggests that troponin and tropomyosin are expressed in the cardiomyocyte nucleus, indicating physiological roles beyond excitation-contraction coupling.
This review highlights emerging evidence that sarcomere proteins troponin and tropomyosin are expressed in the cardiomyocyte nucleus, suggesting novel physiological roles beyond excitation-contraction coupling.

Nuclear troponin/tropomyosin expression may have non-canonical roles; leaves open mechanistic studies before any clinical translation.
Troponin and Tropomyosin in the Cardiomyocyte Nucleus:What for? A number of recent reports have shown the nuclear expression of troponin and tropomyosin in cardiac myocytes. This challenges the long standing view that these sarcomere proteins are physiologically restricted to the cytoplasm. A synthesis of the available data suggests that troponin and tropomyosin in the cell nucleus is not the result of cytoplasmic contamination. The data is suggestive of physiological roles outside their well-recognized function in excitation-contraction coupling.

Faizal Z. Asumda (2013) conducted a review in Nuclear expression of troponin and tropomyosin in cardiac myocytes. Nuclear expression of troponin and tropomyosin was evaluated. Recent data suggests that troponin and tropomyosin are expressed in the cardiomyocyte nucleus, indicating physiological roles beyond excitation-contraction coupling.
