This paper presents a method for the study of social change using systematic visual measurement. Three main approaches are suggested: 1) repeating photographs of the same site over time; 2) repeating photographs of participants in the change process; and 3) rephotographing activities, processes, or functions. Retrospective and cross‐sectional strategies are also considered. Parallels are drawn to quantitative methods. Guidance is offered for those interested in implementing the method in their research.
