The title complex, [Cu(C 26 H 23 N 4 O 2 )Cl], has resulted from C—C bond formation during synthesis. The crystal structure comprises a tetradentate ligand, ( E )-2-{2-[(2-hydroxybenzylidene)amino]-2-(pyridin-2-yl)-1-[(pyridin-2-ylmethyl)amino]ethyl}phenolato, binding through three N and one O atom, and an additional chlorido ligand. The coordination environment of the central copper(II) atom is slightly distorted square-pyramidal with a geometry index τ 5 of 0.034.
