Experimental design demonstrates dynamic beam-steering across dual polarizations in an X-band transmitarray, indicating broad bandwidth and high aperture efficiency.
This paper proposes an X-band 1-Bit dual-polarized reconfigurable transmitarray (DPRTA), enabling dynamic beam-steering in both linear polarization (LP) and circular polarization (CP) modes. First, a dual-LP element integrated with four PIN diodes is designed to achieve 1-Bit phase control for each polarization, and the transmission coefficients are better than −2 dB. Subsequently, a fabricated 12 × 12 LP DPRTA prototype is demonstrated, which exhibits an effective beam-scanning range of ±60ˆ (gain loss <4.6 dB). The measured peak aperture efficiencies (AEs) are 22.8% for x-pol and 22.4% for y-pol, respectively. By incorporating polarization conversion layers, this design expands its functionality to support dual-CP operation. It attains a scanning range of ±40ˆ with a gain roll-off of 2.4 dB. The 3-dB gain bandwidths for both dual-LP and dual-CP modes exceed 20%. Compared with previous works, our design offers wider bandwidth, higher AE, and four-polarization capability, thereby enhancing its applicability across diverse scenarios.
