Archaeological survey reveals fifteen cultural sites along a utility corridor, demonstrating that using existing pole locations prevents damage to historic properties.
This document is a technical report that presents the results of an archaeological surface survey conducted to evaluate the replacement of a proposed power distribution line for effect on historic properties. The study identified fifteen archaeological sites and one isolate within the APE. Twelve of the sites are prehistoric, two sites have prehistoric and historic components, and one site is historic. Ten of these sites lie immediately adjacent to or under the power line, with two of these sites having previously been determined eligible for NRHP listing. These ten sites will not be affected, however, since the old poles will be removed and the new poles will be placed in the existing holes when construction occurs within or adjacent to these archaeological sites.
