This document is a technical report for an archaeological survey performed on Vandenberg Air Force Base (VAFB) in support of the proposed installation of an air quality monitoring station. The station is required by Santa Barbara County in connection with the construction of the gas power plant located approximately 200 feet west of the monitoring station location. The survey was conducted along an approximately 1,700-foot right of way extending from near Coast Road just north of Gray Canyon, extending east along Gray Canyon's northern rim for the proposed installation of an air quality monitoring station and access road. During the surface survey the large archaeological site CA-SBA-662 could be easily seen by changing vegetation associated with the cultural deposit, as well as cultural materials from CA-SBA-663. The latter is probably significant and contemporaneous with CA-SBA-662's upper strata. The report concludes with several recommendations for avoiding impacts to CA-SBA-662 and CA-SBA-663.
