Pd/Co multilayered films were prepared by rf sputtering method with a buffer layer of Pt, Pd, Cu or SiAlON in between the multilayers and the glass substrates. The buffer layers were found to have effects on the structure as well as on the perpendicular magnetic anisotropy and coercive force of the multilayers. Pt buffer layers improve the layer structure and <111> orientation and increase the anisotropy, while SiAlON and Cu do not improve the layer structure but increase the coercivity.
