Key result
The Airtraq laryngoscope significantly reduced the mean time to intubate compared to the TruView EVO2 laryngoscope (21.50 seconds vs 27.54 seconds, p<0.0001) in children under 5 years of age.
Why the study?
The study was conducted to compare the pediatric TruView EVO2 and Airtraq laryngoscope in children < 5 years with normal airway.

Does the Airtraq laryngoscope reduce time to intubate compared to the TruView EVO2 laryngoscope in children < 5 years with normal airways?
Absolute Event Rate: 21.5% vs 27.54%
p-value: p=<0.0001
The Airtraq laryngoscope significantly reduces intubation time and improves first-attempt success rates compared to the TruView EVO2 in pediatric patients under 5 years old.
Airtraq may shorten intubation time in young children; hypothesis-generating and requires validation before practice change.
Introduction: To compare the pediatric TruView EVO2 and Airtraq laryngoscope in children < 5 years with normal airway. Methods: Prospective, randomised, controlled study with 60 children scheduled for elective surgery under general anesthesia divided into two groups:intubation using TVand Airtraq. Time to intubate, rst attempt success rate (FASR), percentage of glottic opening, ease of intubation score and complications were recorded. Results: Time to intubate was 27.54sec in TV and 21.50 sec in AT (P<0.0001). FASR was 80% in the TV and 100% in the AT. The percentage of glottis opening score was 90% in TVand ATgroup. Ease of Intubation was more with ATgroup. Conclusion: AT is better than TV for intubating children as it takes lesser time for intubation, has higher rst attempt success rate and greater ease of intubation.

Aditya Kumar (2019) conducted an RCT in Normal airway requiring intubation for elective surgery (n=60). Airtraq laryngoscope vs. TruView EVO2 laryngoscope was evaluated on Time to intubate (TTI) (p=<0.0001). The Airtraq laryngoscope significantly reduced the mean time to intubate compared to the TruView EVO2 laryngoscope (21.50 seconds vs 27.54 seconds, p<0.0001) in children under 5 years of age.
