The newly established strategic India–Middle East–Europe Corridor ( IMEC ) is a strategic political and economic corridor inaugurated by the Indian government to enable India to play a more active role in the economics and politics of the Middle East and Europe. Although this corridor does not currently appear to be as comprehensive as China’s Belt and Road Initiative ( BRI ), it is increasingly discussed as an alternative to China’s rising economic influence in the Middle East and Europe. The IMEC is also supported by the United States strategically to enhance the position of India both politically and economically in the Middle East and Europe, as well as supporting Israel as a critical player in this corridor. In relation to these policies, this study attempts to analyse the current position of IMEC and assess its opportunities and challenges in the process of its establishment as an international economic corridor.
