Does the apolipoprotein C-II/C-III ratio in VLDL affect VLDL-triglyceride hydrolysis by lipoprotein lipase in vitro?
Does the apolipoprotein C-II/C-III ratio in VLDL affect VLDL-triglyceride hydrolysis by lipoprotein lipase in vitro?
In vitro VLDL-triglyceride hydrolysis by lipoprotein lipase does not appear to be influenced by the apolipoprotein C-II/C-III ratio in VLDL.

VLDL hydrolysis appears independent of apo C-II/C-III ratio in vitro; leaves open its in vivo relevance in humans.
Effect of apolipoprotein (apo) C-II/C-III ratio in very low density lipoproteins (VLDL) on VLDL-triglyceride (TG) hydrolysis by lipoprotein lipase (LPL) was studied in vitro.VLDL apo C-II/C-III ratio was significantly lower in hemodialysis patients (HD), patients with chronic renal failure on a conservative treatment (NHD), a patient with hyperlipidemia type IV (HL-IV) than in normal controls (C).Time-course of VLDL-TG hydrolysis by LPL (VLDL hydrolysis rate) was estimated to determine free fatty acid released. The VLDL hydrolysis rate was not significantly different between C and various diseases except that NHD with serum creatinine concentration of above 10mg/dl showed low VLDL hydrolysis rate.In addition, the VLDL hydrolysis rate after treatment with neuraminidase of VLDL showed an identical finding. These in vitro study demonstrated that the VLDL hydrolysis rate seems not to be deflected by apo C-II/C-III ratio in VLDL.
