The objective of this study was to determine the extent of type I poliovirus inactivation in water softening precipitation processes under controlled chemical conditions. Materials included the attenuated Sabin type 1 poliovirus, and the tissue culture technique that was used conformed to that of Dubecco and Vogt and Vogt et al., as modified by Nakano and Gelfand, with the exceptions noted. Experimental procedures are discussed in detail.
