The diffusion of nickel in the intermetallic compound NiAl has been measured as a function of temperature and composition. The activation energy for diffusion changes considerably across the phase field and is particularly sensitive to the presence of constitutional vacancies. The diffusion coefficient is a minimum at an off-stoichiometric composition.
