Two adolescent males developed acute, self-limiting myocarditis presenting with chest pain and elevated troponin levels 4 to 5 days after receiving the second dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine.
Why the study?
Cases of myocarditis in young healthy male adolescents have been reported following Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccination, despite initial reports showing no serious adverse events.
Case Report (n=2)
No
mRNA COVID-19 vaccination in adolescent males is associated with a rare but generally benign and self-limiting risk of acute myocarditis.
Case reports of myocarditis after BNT162b2 in adolescents warrant vigilance; hypothesis-generating and leaves open incidence and causality.
The SARS-COV-2 pandemic led to the development of several vaccinations to contain the disease. The Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 (BNT162b2) vaccine was recommended on May 2021 for use in children above 12 years and older. The vaccine is safe, well tolerated and highly effective. Initial reports showed no serious adverse events; however, cases of myocarditis in young healthy male adolescents have been reported. We report two cases of myocarditis/perimyocarditis who presented with short history of chest pain following administration of the second dose of the MRN COVID-19 vaccine.

Shamekh et al. (2022) conducted a case report in Myocarditis (n=2). Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 (BNT162b2) vaccine was evaluated on Myocarditis/perimyocarditis. Two adolescent males developed acute, self-limiting myocarditis presenting with chest pain and elevated troponin levels 4 to 5 days after receiving the second dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine.
