A method is presented for the estimation of a Dermacentor variabilis tick population size within an area of migration. A coefficient of migration was developed in order to estimate the rate of loss of the marked population from the sample area so that the Lincoln index method could be used to estimate the population size. This method was used to estimate the size of the spring adult cohort during its closed period, the percent survival of the spring ticks into the summer, and the size of the summer adult cohort.
