A series of complexes of the type M2+(L)6(SbCl6−)2 is reported, in which M is Mg(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II) and Zn(II), and L (Ligand) is butyronitrile, isobutyronitrile, trimethylacetonitrile and benzonitrile. Ligand Field spectra have been investigated for the Co(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II) complexes, values for Dq and B are reported and compared with the values for methyl cyanide. In the infrared region shifts of the CN stretching frequencies are discussed.
