SUMMARY Reference is made to a simple method of measuring intracolonic pressure. This pressure shows marked individual variation, in one‐third of subjects exceeding 30 cm. of water and predisposing to renal failure following ureterocolic anastomosis. Sigmoid‐myotomy is a safe and effective method of reducing pressure to levels compatible with successful transplantation of the ureters. Potentially high bowel pressure may escape detection, even after repeated study, unless drugs are used to stimulate maximal contraction.
