Randomized trial shows improved labor analgesia quality without added adverse effects in primiparous women, indicating double dural puncture epidural is safe and effective.
( Eur J Anaesthesiol . 2025 Sep 1;42(9):774–782. doi: 10.1097/EJA.0000000000002198) Neuraxial block [NA, including epidural and combined spinal epidural (CSE)] is the most commonly used method of labor analgesia. Extensive research has been done to study and improve the NA technique. This prospective, single-blind, randomized controlled trial took place from June 2023 to March 2024 at Huai’an First People’s Hospital, affiliated with Nanjing Medical University. It sought to analyze the analgesic effects and adverse effects of double dural puncture epidural (DDPE) and standard epidural for labor analgesia (EA), while also determining its viability and safety.
