Progress in the synthesis and crystal growth of high optical quality KH2PO4 is reviewed. Large crystals have been grown at rates exceeding 15 mm day−1. KH2PO4 has been used to study fundamental crystal growth kinetics and is contributing to the understanding of growth mechanisms. The growth of KH2PO4 has been shown to occur by three competing mechanisms which are dependent on crystallization conditions.
