In rearrangement collision problems with approximations for the exact wave functions, the various forms of expressions for the transition (T) matrix give different results. The low-energy scattering of electrons by hydrogen atoms has recently been solved by elaborate numerical methods in both singlet and triplet states. The three widely different methods all yield similar results. From these results, the spin-exchange amplitude is extracted and two approximate forms of T are tested. The study is confined to incident Swave electrons. (H.D.R.)
