Does screening for subclinical atherosclerosis and ischemia improve risk stratification and guide therapy in asymptomatic patients with diabetes?
Does screening for subclinical atherosclerosis and ischemia improve risk stratification and guide therapy in asymptomatic patients with diabetes?
This review discusses methods for screening asymptomatic patients with diabetes for coronary atherosclerosis and silent ischemia to aid in risk stratification and therapy guidance.
Screening methods for subclinical CAD in asymptomatic diabetes may aid risk stratification; leaves open whether they improve outcomes or guide therapy.
IN BRIEF Coronary atherosclerosis and silent ischemia are highly prevalent in patients with diabetes. Identification of subclinical atherosclerosis and ischemia in asymptomatic patients with diabetes is valuable for risk stratification and for guiding therapy. This article reviews methods of screening and proposes how to implement them in practice.
