The article is devoted to the issues of training specialists in knowledge-intensive fields within the framework of project-based learning using the example of disciplines in mathematical and IT specialties, and touches upon the digital transformation of education in classical universities. The author offers recommendations for adapting various methods and approaches to the implementation of students' project work by modeling the conditions for organizing training, taking into account the specifics of the future professional activities of young professionals.
