This review highlights the long-term psychosocial, renal, dermatologic, and cardiac complications of Kawasaki disease to facilitate early identification and management.
May prompt monitoring for long-term complications in Kawasaki disease survivors; leaves open validation of screening strategies.
Kawasaki disease is the most common cause of acquired cardiac disease in developed countries. While acute complications of Kawasaki disease have been identified, there is limited data available on chronic complications of Kawasaki disease. This review explores the long-term psychosocial, renal dermatologic and cardiac complications of Kawasaki disease. Increased understanding of these sequelae will allow for early identification and management of these conditions in a unique population that is yet poorly understood.
