Both Sir Jonathan Hutchinson and Alexander Morrison stressed the significance of a family history of rheumatism or gout. Later the adjective "heredo-traumatique" was applied to von Bechterew's syndrome, and Marie and Astié in 18971reported a sister and father who had had a similar disease. Geilinger in 19182thought that heredity played a part in approximately 10% of cases, but interest in this aspect of the disease waned, apart from sporadic reports of involvement of...Bibliography1.
