Why the study?
Can Doppler echocardiography accurately evaluate hemodynamic changes in patients with tetralogy of Fallot before and after corrective surgery compared to healthy controls?

Key result
Doppler echocardiography demonstrated significant alterations in ventricular hemodynamics in TOF patients before surgery compared to post-surgery and controls, and a new method for estimating Qp/Qs correlated well with the Fick method.

Can Doppler echocardiography accurately evaluate hemodynamic changes in patients with tetralogy of Fallot before and after corrective surgery compared to healthy controls?
Doppler echocardiography is a useful non-invasive tool for evaluating hemodynamic changes and estimating Qp/Qs in patients with tetralogy of Fallot before and after corrective surgery.
Watari et al. (1988) conducted an observational in Tetralogy of Fallot (n=179). Pre-corrective surgery state vs. Post-corrective surgery and healthy controls was evaluated on Hemodynamic parameters measured by Doppler echocardiography. Doppler echocardiography demonstrated significant alterations in ventricular hemodynamics in TOF patients before surgery compared to post-surgery and controls, and a new method for estimating Qp/Qs correlated well with the Fick method.
