This paper concludes that the economy of Russia will function in prospect under the conditions of strong fluctuations in the supply of labor force. The growth in the pension age gives little gain in labor force and can be motivated by the deficit of the pension fund but not by the demand of the labor market. The process of depopulation in the country cannot be stopped without increasing the immigration. Russia is able to attract the required number of immigrants. The unregulated legal status of their significant part affects the quality of the flow and the degree of its legitimacy to a greater extent than its amount. The persistence of a western vector and centripetal force of the migration movement can be considered as a stable trend in the future. The demographic crisis and, in particular, migration will strengthen the polarization of Russia’s territory in respect of economic development and contraction of the populated space not only along the east-west direction but also along the center-periphery line in all regions.
