Program evaluation demonstrates improved retention and confidence in licensed practical nurses, highlighting the value of tailored transition programs.
Residency programs are popular initiatives for graduate nurses' transition into practice and currently focus on registered nurses and not licensed practical nurses. This program evaluation assessed a novel residency program geared towards these clinicians to determine the effect on transition to practice. There was an 81.8% retention rate, which was the intended effect of the program. This program evaluation suggests that a licensed practical nurse-specific residency program improves rates of retention and confidence.
