The use of the cholesteric-nematic phase-change effect for multiplexed liquid crystal displays is discussed and some problems associated with this approach examined. The beneficial effect of exploiting the transition between the dynamic scattering cholesteric and pseudo-nematic states is demonstrated and new techniques for changing the information presented in such displays are described.
