Mellanby [1919] in the course of his experiments on dogs has come to.the conclusioi that rickets is a dietetic disease, and that the ultimate cause is a deficiency in the diet of "anti-rachitic factor" a substance which he thinks is probably identical with fat-soluble A. He has said that 100 % of young puppies fed on his basal diets develop rickets.
