A compact latching type 1 × 2 single-mode fibre switch employing a micro magnetic alloy pipe is described. The switch exhibits an insertion loss of 0.9 dB, driving power of 9mW with a switching time of <6ms, and a reproducibility of < ±0.1dB through 2 × 107 switching operations.
