Does innominate osteotomy improve prognosis compared to non-operative treatment in children with Legg-Perthes Disease?
Innominate osteotomy may offer a better prognosis than non-operative treatment for selected children with Legg-Perthes Disease.
May support selective use in Legg-Perthes disease; leaves open need for randomized confirmation.
Innominate osteotomy is based on the supposition that coverage of the femoral capital epiphysis is necessary. The morbidity is minimal, early postoperative weight-bearing is permissible, even encouraged. No further evidence of deterioration of the contour of the hip joint appears following surgery. Prompt consolidation of the fragments may occur. In selected cases innominate osteotomy can provide a better prognosis than non-operative treatment.
