Functional recovery was studied in parotid glands of cats after cutting the auriculo‐temporal nerve. Denervation supersensitivity to methacholine started to decrease between 1 month and 2½ months after the operation, and at the same time there was an increase in the secretory responses to eserine, injected through the salivary duct. Reflexly induced secretion increased and the activity of choline acetyltransferase, greatly reduced shortly after the denervation, rose gradually. However, even a year or more after the denervation the reinnervation was incomplete.
