Magnetic domain patterns of single crystals of yttrium iron garnet have been studied by optical and x-ray topographic methods. There is good correspondence between optical photographs and x-ray topographs of domains. A pronounced striation pattern, not observed by transmission optical microscopy is revealed for certain x-ray reflections. The crystal is otherwise remarkably free of defects.
