Overview

Hybrid CR yielded comparable physical capacity gains to centre-based programs in post-MI women; leaves open need for RCTs to confirm adherence effects.

Structured PICO

Does a hybrid model of cardiac rehabilitation improve physical capacity and adherence compared to standard centre-based rehabilitation in post-MI women?

P
Population
53 post-myocardial infarction female patients with preserved left ventricular function, mean age 51.3 ± 7.6 years.
I
Intervention
Hybrid model of cardiac rehabilitation (8-week program of 24 interval trainings: first 10 in hospital, remaining 14 as tele-monitored walking training at home)
C
Comparator
Standard centre-based cardiac rehabilitation (8-week program of 24 interval trainings, all performed in the centre)
O
Outcome
Physical capacity (workload in METs, duration, heart rate, double product, heart rate recovery) measured by symptom-limited treadmill exercise stress test, and adherence (number of trainings completed and dropouts)surrogate

A hybrid model of cardiac rehabilitation is as effective as a standard centre-based approach for improving physical capacity in post-MI women, while facilitating excellent adherence.
