The calculated piezoelectric and pyroelectric coefficients of single-crystal phase-I PVF2 are too small to explain observed effects in semicrystalline films, and so a model has been constructed in which the crystalline regions may grow reversibly at the expense of amorphous material. Coefficients considerably larger than those observed experimentally are predicted on the basis of this model.
